The Ashlandia 2.5 hour tour combines a mixture of local history, natural settings, beautiful Lithia park, sweeping vistas, the local swimming hole, downtown historic sights, Southern Oregon University, organic farms and tons of fun! Travel around eclectic Ashland and discover why Outside Magazine voted Ashland as one of its top 10 “Best Towns in America.” Ashland residents fell in love with bikes years ago, passing a law in 1973 for cars to share the roads with bikes and winning Gold Medal Status in 2013 as a bicycle friendly community from The League of American Bicyclist. Now you can enjoy Ashland’s unique vibe on your step-thru Pedego Electric Bike. As we tour town we will give you insight into the numerous places to go, from our awarding winning breweries and wineries to the over 80 different restaurants offering everything from sushi and Indian food to BBQ and pizza. The tour meanders through Ashland’s historic Railroad, Downtown, Skidmore Academy, and Siskiyou-Hargadine districts where a 1981 ordinance banned big-box-stores, supporting local and unique businesses such as the Ashland Co-Op, the Northwest Nature Shop, and the elegant Peerless Hotel, featured in the Best Selling Book “1,000 Places To See Before You Die”. The tour includes a 2 mile stretch along the Bear Creek Greenway, part of an 18 mile long paved multi-use trail connecting the towns of Ashand, Talent, Medford and Central Point. The electric bikes allow riders to conquer the hills around Ashland with ease.

The guided bike tour meets at North Mountain Park on North Mountain Park Avenue.  We carefully chose this meeting location as it is convenient to downtown Ashland, offers ample parking, and provides a stress free environment to get comfortable with the electric bikes. We begin the tour with a 10-15 minute overview. We will cover the basics of how to operate the Pedego Interceptor Electric Bike such as shifting gears, the five different electric assist modes, and using the throttle. Then we adjust the bikes to make sure everyone has a comfortable seated position and explain safety procedures for the tour.

Next we follow the North Mountain Park bike path to the historic Railroad District. At this point in the tour, you will really appreciate the power of the electric bike as we cruise uphill with ease. Witness an incredible vista of the Siskiyou mountains with Grizzly Peak looming above the surrounding vineyards.

The tour of Ashland heads through the Railroad District neighborhood, a place teeming with history, including driving in the “gold spike” which completed the Southern Pacific Railroad, turning Ashland into a thriving community. We will take back alley roads showing the unique living quarters of this eclectic neighborhood, from the fancy Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU’s) to the restored Victorian homes. No stop in Ashland would be complete without visiting the Ashland Food Co-op, a thriving hub for obtaining fresh organic and local foods. Then we will head out of town along Jackson Road to the largest organic farm in Southern Oregon, the Fry Family Farm, where they have earned the Oregon Tilth certification, one of the most prestigious symbols of organic quality.

Next we jump on the Bear Creek Greenway for a 2 mile nature cruise back to downtown Ashland, where we will dive more into the history and art of Ashland and its most famous treasure, Lithia Park. We will wind through the tree lined streets surrounding Lithia park to the Ashland Creek Reservoir, a place for a quick dip in crystal clear water on a hot summer day. Then get ready for some fantastic views as we head into the hills overlooking Ashland. Winding down through the maze of streets, we will pass by the world famous Elizabethan Shakespeare Theatre, where over 400,000 people a year experience live performances ranging from classic to contemporary plays. We will also point out where the free nightly Green Shows perform.

Heading down main street, we tour through Southern Oregon University’s beautiful campus, complete with organic farms, museums, and a nine-hole disk golf course. Following the central bike path, we will head back to North Mountain Park after a 14 mile tour.
